Who we are

This app is run by Treasure Guide (Tim Borders), publisher of the printed Treasure Guides. See Contact below.

No accounts

There is nothing to sign up for. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app, and we do not run our own analytics or advertising trackers.

What stays on your device

To remember things between visits, the app saves a small amount of data in your browser’s local storage on your device:

• shops you save (favorites), shops you mark as visited, and your planned routes;
• recently viewed shops;
• settings such as your market, theme, text size, data saver, list layout and sort order;
• the last weather forecast, so it can show without a new request;
• if you turn on offline mode or open pages, a copy of the app, listings and guide pages in the browser’s cache (the service worker), so they work without a signal.

This data is not sent to us. You can clear it from Saved, from Settings, or by clearing your browser’s site data.

Your location

If you tap Near me or show your position on the map, your browser asks for permission to share your location. The app uses it on your device to sort shops by distance and to show your dot on the map. We do not store your location, and it is never sent to us.

Two features need a server to answer and send coordinates to the services named below: when the weather chip shows weather where you are, your location rounded to about 2 km (roughly a mile) goes to the weather service; and when you ask for a route or a walking time from your position, the start and stop coordinates go to the routing service. These services do not receive your name or any account information.

Services the app connects to

Like any website, these requests reveal your IP address and browser details to the service that answers them. Each service has its own privacy policy.

• Hosting: the app is served by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages), which processes requests and may keep standard server logs. We have not added Cloudflare Web Analytics or any other analytics script to the app.
• Map tiles: OpenFreeMap, with map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
• Weather: Open-Meteo (the center of the market you are viewing, or your rounded location as described above), with the US National Weather Service as a backup.
• Routes and walking times: FOSSGIS routing servers at openstreetmap.de (Valhalla and OSRM).

Cookies

The app itself sets no cookies. It uses local storage on your device as described above. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check for abusive or automated traffic.

Links to other sites

Directions open in Google Maps or Apple Maps, and listings link to shops’ own websites, phone numbers and social media pages. Those sites and apps have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.

Children

Treasure Guide is meant for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you contact us

If you email or call us (for example about advertising), we use what you send only to reply and to handle your request.

Changes

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
